The San Francisco Mayor's Committee for Employment of Persons with Disabilities, with generous support from

NORDSTROM
is awarding two $500.00 scholarships to students with disabilities that are either going on to higher education or are planning to further their education. Students must be residents of San Francisco. The award can be used at the discretion of the awardees for school expenses.

How to Apply

Write an essay on the topic listed below. Your essay must be typed and be a minimum of 500 words and no more than 1000 words; please mark each page of your essay with your name, address and phone number. Essays will be evaluated by members of the San Francisco Mayor's Committee for Employment of Persons with Disabilities, and will be judged on the following: creative expression, critical thought, and quality of writing. Essays may also be submitted on CD/disc or video format, again being sure to label such with your name, address and phone number.

Essay Subject

Write an essay about a person who has made a difference in your life as it relates to your disability; specifically, how this person inspired you and what consequences and outcomes happened in your life as a result of this person's influence and actions.

Where to Apply

Mail your essay including a letter indicating your current enrollment or your intention to enroll on letterhead from your school guidance counselor or admissions officer. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. Mail your essay and letter to:

Deadline

Submissions must be postmarked no later than May 6, 2005.

Notification

You will be notified by mail if you are selected as a recipient. If selected, you will receive the award at the annual San Francisco Mayor's Committee for Employment of Persons with Disabilities Achievement Awards and Fundraising Breakfast to be held June 23, 2005 from 8:00am until 10:00am at the World Trade Club, 1 Ferry Plaza, San Francisco.
